5Solved My ProblemJan 29, 2007
I have had a leaking tub faucet for quite awhile. I initially replaced the washers which initially helped and then after a short while actually made the problem worse, (slow drip turned to slow running faucet).

I purchased this kit and was able to replace the faucet seats, stems, trim work, and handles. The tub/shower now works and looks like new. It seems the inital problem was a cracked faucet seat on the cold side.

The kit does not replace the faucet spout, but even though ours isn't the prettiest is still works fine and I have heard some horror stories when people try to remove the old spout so I will leave well enough alone.

Some suggestions...first off before installing the stems make sure the packing nuts are somewhat tightened. One of the stems packing nut was not even finger tip tight. I tightened all 1/4 of a turn for some resistance and to prevent them from accidentally unscrewing and flooding the house. Secondly, you will need to purchase a "seat wrench" to unscrew the original seats. This "L-shaped" tool is not included with this kit but is available locally at the big box stores for about $5. Lastly, place a little pipe dope on the new faucet seats before installing as it will provide a water tight seal and make the next replacement a bit easier. You can also place a bit of stem lubricant on the threaded portion of the stems for easier movement. I didn't do this and the faucets seem to work just fine.

Highly recommended product.
